Oh, yes, the Nikon D5 which really has me salivating when I look at it,
(not that it's in my budget), has a 20.1 mp sensor. I'm pretty sure
that Nikon is aiming it as a high end wedding, sports, general news,
etc. camera. Nikon has been doing pretty good lately, and they have a
very good stable of 24mp cameras aimed at all levels of amateur
photographers. (Not to mention a 36mp Pro DSLR).
I expect that the Pentax will be aimed at a slightly different
audience. However a 24-36mp camera that comes within a couple of frames
a second of the D5 burst rate with, a decent buffer, a ~D500 level price
and K-5II/K-3 body size/build level and decent image quality. Well that
camera could and should satisfy a working pro.
Resolution and image quality is already in the overkill zone for 90% all
photographic purposes with a good 12mp sensor.
What still needs work in Pentax is auto focus. Which still trails
everyone else on the block. Now that's not too important to me, most of
my higher quality lenses are manual focus, but it's not a selling point
to have 1/4 or less AF points than the competitions entry level cameras,
no matter how accurate those AF points are.

I continue to believe that it will be the 42MP Sony sensor used in the
Sony Sony a7R II and recently Cyber-shot RX1R II. A 36MP sensor would
be a significant upgrade from the current 24.3MP APS-C line, of
course, but that 36MP sensor has been around so long that I feel
Pentax would be opening themselves up to "Why didn't I just switch
brands when Nikon released the 800/800E 4 years earlier (though, to be
fair, the Pentax offering would probably be better compared with the
Nikon D810, which was introduced a mere TWO years ago).
Based on what other manufacturer's full frame camera owners have said,
a full frame sensor will definitely impact the selection of lenses you
are satisfied with. You don't have to be a big pixel peeper to detect
poor corner performance and this is the area that I expect to be the
differentiator. Although it is "mind over matter". If you don't mind -
it don't matter!

Good Sunday morning.
Any bets as to what size sensor, in MP, the K-1 will have? 24, 36, 42?
Manufacturer?
How will a given size impact lens suitability?
I'm coming from a K20D.

Rumors I remember have it as the same sensor Sony used in their A7r. Be
nice if it's the same as the A7r II.
