The plate lunch is a quintessentially Hawaiian meal, that has its roots in the Japanese bento. A standard plate lunches consist of two scoops of white rice, a scoop of macaroni salad, and an entrée. A plate lunch with more than one entrée is a mixed plate.
The entree can be fish, ribs, shrimp, kalua pork or whatever. My favorite is the loco moco, and Hawaiian as it gets. The entree is a large hamburger parry topped with fried eggs and brown gravy.
