I think you can even still install Windoze XP if you have a valid copy
of the media.
I have an old IBM Thinkpad R30 that I bought second-hand (via
mail-order) while I was overseas. The vendor installed XP Pro, but the
product key on the shell is for XP Home.
It BSOD'd on me when I tried to install SP3. I managed to extract all my
data from the hard-drive, but when I ran the recovery, it wouldn't
accept the product key. I found an OEM copy of Windoze XP Pro, but never
got around to installing it.
Don't know what use it would be if I could get it running again, but
maybe I'll hunt it up & see if XP will still install just for grins &
giggles.
Maybe you don't even need a valid copy, but that's beyond how much work
I'm willing to do just to install something that obsolete.

Interesting - I did not know that you could still buy and register
Windows 7. I have it on my desktop and it is vastly superior to Vista,
IMO. I might go that way.

Any chance you would consider Windoze 7?

My laptop came with Vista & I was *never* satisfied with it, but Windoze
7 has worked Ok.
