Good for you Paul! Congratulations both on the new knee and the new (camera)
body.

I have been sitting here thinking of all the reasons why I don’t need the K-1.
I have the 645Z for landscape & macro, I have the K-3 for birds and other
wildlife. And as a convenient carry-along to dinners and parties.

But then I realized! Since the K-1 will shoot in crop-sensor mode for the DA
lenses, and assuming that the cropped-in-camera images are at least equal to
the K-3 APS-C images, the K-1 would substitute nicely for the K-3 and give me
the advantage of newer (better) SR, focusing, etc. plus built in Astrotracer
and wifi...

I am not going to jump in right now, but I will be looking forward to seeing
some comparison shots with, e.g. the DA*50-135 on the K-3 vs. the same lens on
the K-1 in crop-sensor mode.

Exciting times!

By the way, it is really trivial, but I do so much appreciate the fact that the
K-5, K-3, 645Z, and now the K-1 all use the exact same battery. It may even
have been the same back as far as the K-10 or K-20. The Pentax engineers really
seem to understand the mantra “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it…"
