Yes - so much better without a halo .. and such a handsome fellow!
My first reaction was "buzzard? - looks like a hawk to me" because over here what are commonly called buzzards are /turkey vultures/(Cathartes aura) - the "turkey" part, I believe, because at a distance a solitary bird walking a long could be confused with a wild turkey. Our buzzards are not as pretty as yours.
