I'm not Paul ;-) but I used to use this type of grip strap on a Canon
1DmII and most of the time I just put my hand over the whole thing (eg
not actually slipping my fingers thru the actual strap) and never had a
problem. When I wanted assurance that the camera was not going to fall
from my grip, say photographing over a drop, etc, then I slipped my
fingers in. The tension has to be just right for a useful grip. And of
course the setting for your bare hand doesn't also suit a gloved hand,
so 'winter' setting required a looser fit.
