Alan,

These are OK. I've selected those that were better.
There were some other shots that would've been more interesting if they didn't have motion blur.

Yes, I think TC's work. I don't use them that often, but Paul presented several great photos taken with a TC. You might argue that he is using the newest one from Pentax. I remember some other PDMLers have posted very nice photos taken with other TC's.

For me, occasionally the TC also works for macro shots.

PS. Can anybody help identifying this bird? Is it a heron?

They don't look too bad to me, Igor. I wonder if setting the FL would have made much difference?

I recently took some shots of a Saddlebill Stork & chick using my HD 55-300 without & with the 1.7x AF. I set the FL to 500mm. The range is about 80m. The shot with the 1.7x is cropped less than the one without & is definitely a bit degraded. It makes me wonder if TC's really work.

Scroll L for the 500.

Subject: Shake reduction - Doh! (And PESO - heron?)

Doh!
https://goo.gl/AeVZis

I keep forgetting that SMC Pentax-F 1.7x AF Adapter is seen as an "A" type
of lens by the camera, and no information about the focal length is
transmitted to the camera.

Since my only "A"-type of lens used (not counting converters) is the
Samyang's 8mm-fisheye, it is what remains set for the focal length for the
shake reduction.
Today, I saw a bird (heron or crane?) in our subdivision (or heron?), and
came to photograph it. I put the 1.7 adapter in front of the 60-250 lens,
but forgot to dial for the SR.

While I had to shoot while holding the camera, I was relying in
part on the SR. The result is underwhelming...
... and now I am recalling that I've head this happening to me about a
year ago.
               Doh!

BTW, maybe the resident experts could tell me if this is a heron (grey
heron?) or something else?

The first photo is ok as it was taken without the adapter:

Here is the best of those taken with the adapter:

Thank you,
