You may want to keep Asus gaming series in mind. The two we have two HDD
bays, an optical drive and lots of RAM.

They're pricey, but don't need to replace them every year because they
can't handle tasks. Works out well if you consider the cost of buying cheap
and often.  The oldest one (G74S series) dates back to 2009 and it's still
kicking. The newer one is a bit more than a year old. Running side-by-side,
there's little difference in the power and performance.
