Like many of you I waited for a Pentax full frame DSLR for years and years.
Heck, I remember wanting to buy the MZ-D back when it was announced at the
Ulan Bator camera show.

Anyway, years passed, I bought many Pentax cameras (istD, K10D, K5, K-01,
K3 without counting a ton of lenses and a couple of point and shoots). Then
Pentax actually make a full frame DSLR.

And then I realized that I like smaller cameras.

So this is the first time when, in the market for a camera, I don't buy the
top of the line that Pentax is offering. I think the K-1 is too big for my
taste and for street work. What I really want is a digital MX. So I went
ahead and got what I think is the closest you get to that nowadays, if you
want full frame:

It's a Sony A7ii. On paper it doesn't compare fantastically to the K-1:
24MP vs 36MP, it has a low pass filter, it's an EVF. But overall, it is a
beautiful piece of hardware. In the hand it actually feels more like a
K1000 with a grip, their sizes are very similar:

Here it is compared again to the MX, from the top. Different lenses
mounted, of course. K30/2.8 on the Sony and M35/2.8 on the MX:

Also, I can mount all kinds of lenses on this thing, and I love that.
Behold this beauty:

I will be able to try some Soviet-made lenses I have that are Leica mount,
but because of historical design decisions regarding mounts and
rangefinders, never focused very well on a Leica RF. Things like the
Jupiter 9 (85mm/f2) should shine when well focused.

I'm posting this because when researching this camera I didn't find too
many photos of it compared to Pentax bodies. In order not to end on a
non-Pentax photo though, here is a last one with one of my favorite lenses
of late:

Who knows, maybe Pentax will make a tiny full frame DSLR in a year or two.
If that happens I'll be there.
