I think the round thing at the end is just an RF filter isn't it? Yeah
they are still available. I would mail you one, but it would probably
be a lot faster to go hit the local computer surplus store and find a
cheap one. Yeah it sounds like it isn't communicating properly. Time
to rule out the cable.
