That was true for the RCR-V3's which max at 3.7V giving 7.4V for a pair. The
Kentli batteries are Li-ion in an AA package with circuitry (probably a
zener) to restrict them to 1.5V so a set of 4 would give the recommended max
6v. The Eneloops (which I have) & their kin are Ni-mH hybrids which have the
disadvantage of memory effect which the Li-ion batteries don't have.
