My father was immune to poison ivy and poison sumac. He literally pulled
it out with his bare hands. If I touched it, I would get a little right at
the contact spot, but it would not spread. My mother would get serious
cases of poison ivy without any contact, if any of it was disturbed near
her.

My father and I spent most of our spare time one summer cleaning the poison
ivy out of a new girl scout camp. My mother (who was on the regional Girl
Scout council) would have us take all our clothes off and wash them
outdoors with yellow soap before we brought them into the house. We would
shower and change at my aunt's home to avoid infecting my mother.
