Ed - My NSHO:

1. If you get two lenses, I would go
    a. 50/1.4 or 1.7
    b. 100/2.8

3. If you go to three lenses, I would go:
    a. 50/1.4 or 1.7
    b1. 100/2.8
    b2. 100/4.0 macro
    b3. 135/3.5
    c. 35/3.5 or, maybe, a 28/whatever

In other words, I would go longer with the second lens rather than shorter,
I would consider the very capable not too expensive 100/4 macro. And only
then would I go wide, and even then I wouldn't go too wide. 35 is plenty.

One additional thought. Buy one really well written book. Like one of the
Shaw landscape or macro books. Or a well written book on lighting for
portraiture . . . Something to stimulate the imagination and to start one
thinking about the techniques of getting your vision onto film.
