Actually, although I have heard it called "the Road Runner train,"  it is
officially the New Mexico Rail Runner Express, or NMRX.  The line opened
only 10 years ago, and service to Santa Fe (from Albuquerque) began in
2008.  There are nine engines, and the one shown is NMRX 101.  There are 11
scheduled daily runs in each direction.

   It apparently operates at a substantial deficit.

Which was entirely predictable. I like trains but they make no economic sense if population density is below a certain level. We only approach that density in the US in a very few places. I live in one of them and even here they struggle.


I am a big fan of trains, old and new.
