Ain't there a single country boy in this group? Grousing about the
ride? These things ain't a limo. They ain't even a station wagon for
momma to use picking up the kids after school.
They are TRUCKS. They are meant to haul Hay, take Bossy, or a couple of
heifers, or a sow, or whatever -- where ever they need to go. Or bring
hay or barbed wire and fence posts to the quarter section (poor),
section (rich) that you are farming. And Bossy don't care about bounce.
If you care about bounce you are driving too fast on those dirt roads.
Now, about this
150/1500, 250/2500, 350/3500 stuff. Here's the poop. In Heavy Duty
Work or Drayage (Heavy load Short Hauling) here is how these haulers
are rated: Load Plus 100% Overload. Thus a 150 or 1500 (those numbers
mean NOTHING) is duty rated at One Half Ton -- Plus a 100% Overload or
-- Ta Da -- a Ford F150 or Chevy/Dodge/Whatever 1500 is rated at, and
will, should, is designed to HAUL a One Ton Load of Beeves, Mutton,
Pork, or Fence All Day Every Day at Farm To Market Speeds, over Farm to
Market Roads. Ain't nothin' changed about that since Henry was alive.
And the F250/C2500 are of course the Three Quarter Tonnage Version, Plus
Overload, Meant to Haul, Day In, a Ton and A Half. Not You and your city
butt. Rather Cows, Swine, whatever. And the Mighty F350/3500? That is
the One Tonner, Meant to Haul Two Tons, over Farm to Market Roads (dirt,
asphalt, rutted, pot-holed, road-graded, occasionally Actually Paved) at
1940's to 1960's speeds. Guess what? They will do that. All Day. Want a
smooth Ride? Buy a Jaguar XJL. But at my place, when I put on my
Justins, my Wranglers, button up a blue chambray work shirt, grab my
Wells Lamont Gloves and Bailey Hat (Stetson's are for Church -- or
Court) and head out to back where the trucks are parked, I ain't looking
for a carriage ride. There. Have I shamed enough of you to quit
bellyaching about 'soft rides' so we can all start talking about
Cameras? (Oh, we sold the 1,000 Acres in Lincoln County, Oklahoma, and
the 1,200 head of beeves some time ago. Down to a more manageable
size.) Would talk more, but got court tomorrow. Re-lurking now.
