Murphy seems to be busy at this time of year ... Shortly after my main computer decided to stop working, my alternate system - a small, lightweight Dell XPS 13 - decided that charging its battery was too much trouble. This left me with an indicated three hours or so before I would be cut off from the internet :-(
Somewhat later HP decided that, despite their quoted delivery time when I placed the order (and an assurance in the later shipping confirmation email) my order would not, in fact, be delivered before December 25th; it would instead be delivered on December 28th. Fortunately a quick Google search (using my wife's computer to preserve what little battery life remained on the Dell) suggested that I was by no means the first person to run into this problem, and the recommended solution was to power down & disconnect the battery to force the machine to reset itself. (Some folk suggested simply running down the battery instead, but that was not what Dell product support seemed to recommend). I'm somewhat reluctant to mess around with hardware (especially when poking around near components that don't take kindly to static electricity and the like), but I decided to give it a try. Fortunately I did have the somewhat uncommon tool needed to remove the notebooks's back cover (a Torx T5 driver, I believe), and a suitable Philips screwdriver to undo the battery retaining screws. As you might guess, since I'm able to get online again, I was succesful in getting the system to reinitialize the charging circuitry. Not only that - last night FedEx changed the expected delivery date for my new system back to today, and the current status shows that it is on a truck out to be delivered within the next few hours! I'm keeping my fingers crossed ... -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
