Same experience here.
Got my first Pentax, an Asahi spotmatic in 1969 after using a friend's spotmatic for a few races. I've only owned Pentax slrs ever since and except for a motor rewind issue with a PZ1, I've had no issues. The PZ1 was my most heavily used camera - I pushed thousands of 36 exposure rolls thru it in the years I used it.
I've had an ES, MZ-S, PZ1, PZ1P, MX, ist*D, K10D, K20D and K3.

I have most of the lenses I want and don't see a need for larger file sizes.

My experience is the same as John's.

I bought my first Pentax -- actually branded as a Honeywell Spotmatic - in
1967, and I have been loyal since, because I could use my older lenses in
the newer models, and because of the consistent quality of the cameras and
lenses. Like John, my current cameras may well outlive me.

Like all mechanical or electronic items, they can break and need repairs,
but I've only once had to
send a Pentax camera in for repair! I expect to be using my current crop
(MZ-S, *ist-d, K5ii-s, SV
and a couple of other older models) until hell freezes over. I'll be
sorry if Ricoh do drop out,
they've done some good stuff in the last few years - BUT, they do need to
market!

The fact is at my age my Pentax kit will probably outlast me, so I'm good
to go!
