"Sunny 16" says f16 at 1/200 or f8 at 1/1600.
On auto, the camera may be confused with the grass and changing
backgrounds. I would have opted for establishing an exposure based on the
light available and used it in manual. The latitude of the film would have
taken care of everything else.
