Personally I don't *prefer* either; I find both have their uses. I used to be pretty much a prime lens snob until I tried out the FA*80-200 but I couldn't argue with the results from that lens. I've since added a Tokina 28-70 f2.6-2.8 but those are basically my only two zooms now. (I *would* like it if Pentax or someone else would make a premium quality 17-35, though.
