I'm pretty sure that if you're in Live View, the mirror stays locked
up (doesn't flip back down and up before the exposure). So that might
be part of a solution.

That is the way it works on the K-1. There is an incredible amount of flop and bounce when shooting live view with the K-3. There is a bracket with 2 second delay mode on the K-3, I think that is what you would want to use.
