You can't attach the gyro to the tripod, unless you want to
  stabilize the boat too. ;o)
  Now seriously, the gyro adds inertia momentum to the entire rigid
  ensemble it's part of. Hence, you are supposed to hand-hold your
  600/4. Given the significant weight of the presumably stabilized
  rig, any sudden move will face serious resistance and panning might
  become jerky.
  BTW, I've been looking up the prices, too. Hmm... a lake freezer
  must be cheaper.
