The other day, I was opening a single use camera when the film
cassette jumped out of my hand and hit the floor. The end popped
off and the roll of film fell out of the cannister entirely. I
picked the raw film roll up, closed my hand around it and loaded
it into an intercassette for processing. I think we lost 3
frames entirely, and a couple of other frames partially.
You will be pleasantly surprised by how small a disaster this
sort of thing is.

The antihalation layer works both ways, so film that is tight on
the roll actually is very resistant to total loss due to
fogging.
