When I first looked at the first photo, I realized that it was an attempt of (re-)creating a particular style/image. But, I must admit, I was ignorant of the "original" that you (and Ann) referenced.

I too think that
"Iryna beauty" ( https://flic.kr/p/22BGEGw )
and "Iryna 3" ( https://flic.kr/p/23Cs9cf ) seem to be better because of
the muscle tension in the first photo in this thread (Iryna beauty 2).
(And despite understanding the style, I also didn't quite like the way the hair was covering her eye in the first shot ("Iryna beauty 2"). It is better in "Iryna beauty".)

But I enjoyed looking at the entire set. Thanks for sharing, Bruce!

Speaking of the retro hair styles, - just recently I was thinking about
those from 60s and 70s, such as

and

For me, that's a memory from the childhood, and they feel quite a bit odd today (and I like the music from that era).

I have a hypothesis that some type of "cycle" of the style generations
(I am not sure how many style generations, maybe 4 or 5, or maybe 40-50 years). And in that cycle, some of the generations feel odd to the "contemporary" eye, while some older ones do not.
Obviously, there are sharp "rebellion" switches between the generations
(kids nihilistically reject their parents' style and create the one that the parents could not stand) that are probably 15-20 years apart, But then, maybe 40-50 years-ago styles can look cool. (And that's probably because those were something that the parents had opposed as it was their-parents', i.e. the "grand-parents" style.) And that's why, flappers look cool today (that's probably 2 full cycles, at 90-100 years). Note last (this?) season's fashion trend: https://goo.gl/qdHwri

Cheers,

Igor

I am not really fond of her hair over half her face that way.

That was a very popular look at one time, you know. Ever hear of
Veronica Lake? :)

That was who I was making a little nod to.
