Thanks to all who looked & commented.
I took about 20 shots but may were spoiled by shrubbery, heads turned away
and approaching cars in the background.
I had been using an old Sigma 170-500 APO but found it wanting in sharpness.
Last week I bought a newer DG version which is rated much better. These were
my first serious shots with this lens & I am very satisfied (the poor man's
D-FA 150-450?). I used it HH with the Jack Davis TAV, 1/2000, f8 formula.
The reviews suggest it may be bit soft at f5.6 but I will give it a try next
time. Now for some bird shots!
By the way, we have had 100mm rain overnight. A big relief.
