Hmm, that does not sound good.
It should make some 'seeking' noise perhaps (and the LED, if any may blink for 
a while)
but it should not make real 'click' sounds.

Clicks are usually caused by the drive-firmware resetting, causing the 
head-assembly
to return to a start-poistion. It may do that when it can't read anything from 
the platters ...

No, partition tables are about CONTENTS, even a virgin disk, with nothing on it,
would still appear in Disk-utility (where you would then 'initialize' it, and 
partition/format)

No problem when you need it, but if Disk-Utility does not see it, neither will 
DFSee ...
