I read something about this on the CBC news website (or I may have heard it on their science program Quirks and Quarks). Anyway, what you are seeing is the end result of an overuse of pesticides on crops. Eventually, farmers will have to use Q-Tips to hand pollinate their crops as we kill all the pollinators along with the pests.
Except there won't be any cotton to make cotton swabs with......
Oops.
I suspect we have, at most, a couple of decades before the entire ecosystem collapses under the weight of our collective stupidity and hubris and we all starve to death.
Bone up on your cockroach recipes, that might be the entree of the future.
