I was in Durham 4 times at the time of the Great North Run (91, 93, 97 & 99) but they wouldn't give hoi polloi late entries although they did make allowances for elite runners. It was a pity because I was running well in those years - had to be content with the TV transmission. (We were there for Phillips Analytical Conferences & stayed in the Castle).
