You do realize that you haven't really saved any money... What you've
done is not spent more money.

Are there any amazing deals on tripod bases or arca-swiss heads?
When I'm in Canada, I visit various thrift stores quite often. They
routinely have tripods, usually dirt cheap & some are from respectable
brands. I've no idea if they'd have what you need, but it might be
worth looking.
Usually the tripods in thrift stores aren't worth the postage to mail
them across town, however, there's always the chance of someone not
knowing what they are throwing away. It's definitely worth learning
what to look for and keeping your eyes open.
In an amazing bit of good luck, mine was turned in to lost and found
and has been recovered. Yay!
With all the money I saved not having to replace a lost tripod and
head, I could buy a really nice ball head or gimbal mount.
