I asked a friend, and he confirmed that it's a red shouldered hawk

Woolly huge black and a few white clouds. Cold possibly be a Red Shoulder Hawk. White clouds were very bright and happened to be directly behind "it" when I released the shutter. I, of course, then had a perfect hawk silhouette. The edges of the totally black image were knife sharp and I felt it might clean up enough to see some detail. See my attached sorry image.
