I asked a friend, and he confirmed that it's a red shouldered hawk

Definitely a Red-tailed Hawk. The dark bars on the leading edge of the
underlying are distinctive.
Cheers!

Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge, Taken yesterday.

Woolly huge black and a few white clouds.

Cold possibly be a Red Shoulder Hawk. White clouds were very bright and
happened to be directly behind

"it" when I released the shutter. I, of course, then had a perfect hawk
silhouette. The edges of the totally black

image were knife sharp and I felt it might clean up enough to see some detail.

See my attached sorry image. I do sort of like the pose.

C&C?

Thanks

J
