Hi, I bought a second-hand Pentax MZ-M with 35-80 zoom as a birthday present for my son. He has a small manual flash (I forget the make, but that's not important right now) from a previous camera, which has a contact voltage of ~200v (I mesaured it). I suspect that this would destroy the MZ-M if he used them together, so he's in the market for a newer dedicated flash.
The MZ-M manual gives a long list of compatible Pentax flash guns, but gives no details on the specifications - the Pentax web site is no more helpful, especially as several of these flashes now seem to be no longer made. Also, as Mike is on a small budget (about 50/$30 he would prefer something second-hand. What would be a suitable flash for this camera? The Pentax web site suggests the AF201SA, but gives no details about this flash's capabilities. I think what Mike needs is a small flash with auto (ie aperture-set thyristor) and manual modes. As far as I can tell from the manual, the MZ-M does not do TTL or communicate with zoom flash. As an aside, I have an AF500FTZ flash that I use with my MZ-5n and pZ-1p. Can this flash be used on the MZ-M? I guess only in manual mode? Thanks, Andy Phillips - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
