Try walking 10 minutes away from, for example, the Champs-Elysées, and you should be able to find a very good meal at a bistro or restaurant (sometimes labelled 'resto'). I have had some memorable meals at such places: choose the ones where ou will get the last table, they're the ones the locals go to!

On our first trip to Paris, I found it very difficult to get anything for lunch except ham and cheese or cheese and ham sandwiches. We had some great dinners at nice restaurants, but the lunches were all ham and cheese. At the Eiffel Tower snack bar, they sold only cheeseburgers and hot dogs, with pommes frites. I saw "sausage" on the menu, so I ordered it. It was baloney in the shape of a hot dog on a hot dog roll. In Normandy, the lunches were much better. There, they make great crepes for lunch, unlike the tasteless ones offer in Paris. Two of the greatest meals I ever had were dinners at Parisian restaurants, but for lunch one might as well go to McDonald's.
