I went with a photo of inhabitants in situ from my archives..there were

Manhattan.

The rubbish bins are the most distinctive features of most of Philadelphia’s

Among the definitions is a walkway along or beside a row of trees or shrubs.
I took several shots fitting each of these definitions, then went with a photo
from 11 years ago.

More commonly here in the U.S. (and I saw them when I visited Scotland in 2004)
they're a back passageway between rows of buildings where the garbage bins &
utilities are located; also where commercial deliveries are made.
