Not entirely off-topic:
On my way from London to Auckland back in '78 I stopped off in Singapore
(16 hours on planes, including 90 minutes on the runway in Oman for a
refuelling stop with the A/C turned off, and a military vehicle parked
with a machine gun trained on the plane in case anyone tried to get off,
was more than enough for me). If you think Singapore is hot, try sitting
in a cigar tube for an hour+ with no A/C and 110/45 temperatures outside!

During the stopover, I also planned to visit the main Pentax distributor
in Singapore to pick up a few items (an ME body and power winder, 28mm
and 80-200mm lenses, a flash, etc.) to supplement my MX - prices there
were significantly better than those in the UK.

So the next morning (Saturday) I hailed a taxi and asked to be taken there.
After a brief discussion with the taxi driver, who assured me that the shop
would not be open on a Saturday, but fortunately his brother ran a camera
shop that would be open, and could give me a better price .., we agreed
that the taxi would take me where I asked to go, and then when I saw that
the shop really was closed we could go on to the alternative destination.

Of course the distributor was open, and I was able to pick up everything
that I wanted. Not only that - they gave me a package deal, so for the
amount I had budgeted I also got several filters and a second 50mm/f1.4
thrown in (the MX already had one).
