It's an interesting question as to whether a) Leica and the other current participants in the L-mount group are interested in expanding the number of companies, and b) whether Ricoh-Pentax is interested in collaborating. It would add more diversity to the mix.
But I strongly suspect that to do so, Ricoh-Pentax would have to design a mirrorless body since the L-mount specification that they would have to share is specifically designed for mirrorless, all electronic cameras. And as good as the best Pentax lenses are, they'd need revisions for the new mount because they'd need to be able to be used on other L-mount bodies as well, just like Sigma and Panasonic L-mount lenses are used on Leica bodies and vice versa without restriction. So the costs of becoming involved would be quite high … Ricoh would need to see a positive profitability map for all that development work. The L-mount products, at the present time, are targeting the upper end of the camera equipment price bracket for their format and features. That is likely by design and intent. The Panasonic S1h is quite a lot of camera for the money however, and the Leica SL2 is similarly albeit at a 30% price premium. It would be interesting to see if Pentax wanted to play in that ballpark and whether it could reach to that kind of audience.
