Just to clear up any confusion, they're actually both "after" shots, taken a few minutes apart. If you look closely at the background building in the first photo you can see cracks in the parapet; that's where the bricks on the ground had come from.
The photos were taken at the western end of Cathedral Square. Only a couple of buildings surrounding the square remain (including the Anglican Cathedral itself, in ruins, which is slowly being repaired).
