I think it’s going to depend on how far you want to transport the stuff, what
the terrain is like, and what you expect to photograph when you get there.

I would never carry anything like that on my body for any distance, but you
could put a camera insert into a robust musette for s short distance. The best
solution of you’ll be stopping and shooting periodically rather than just
transporting stuff is to put the camera and a lens in the bar bag.

At the moment I am thinking about the logistics of bird photography on RSPB
reserves. There is one fairly close to me called Pulborough Brooks which I
could cycle to in about an hour:
https://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves-and-events/reserves-a-z/pulborough-brooks/

I would need to transport a tripod, 50-200mm 4/3rds lens, camera, a couple of
other lenses and all the other paraphernalia of photography, plus bike repair
kit, lunch, hot water, tea bags, binoculars and so on. Most of the stuff would
fit in my Carradice Camper Longflap saddlebag with plenty of spare space, and I
think I could fairly easily strap the tripod across the top of it, as it is
designed to carry a tent that way.

Assuming there is somewhere safe to lock the bike when I get there, the next
question is shoes. Nobody wants to walk in cycling shoes across a nature
reserve carrying all that crap, and nobody wants to cycle for any length of
time in walking boots.

In short, a handlebar bag and a saddle bag should be enough for most needs, I
think.
Something like this would probably do it. That’s a Carradice Super C saddlebag
at the back and my Domke F5 on the front, as mentioned in a previous thread.
