Quite the opposite in most cases.  Some (e.g. Smew) are onomatopoeic versions 
of the bid's call.  Others (troglodyte mignon) refer to behaviour or (horned 
screamer) are purely descriptive.  The only one that may be slightly unkind is 
the (Blue footed - there are others) Booby.  This is related to the albatross, 
spends minimal time earthbound and is therefore not the most agile of animals 
on its feet.  But that assumes a late 20th century useage of the term, which 
may not be correct.
