You know, some of our founding fathers wanted to make German the language of the American government, instead of English. The area I live in was settled first by the Native Americans, then by Swedes, then by Dutch, and then by German refugees. The English Army threw the Dutch out of New Netherlands by force, as the English were wont to do.
I hope England survives and thrives as an isolated island after Brexit, but I also hope the Scots leave and rejoin the EU and the Northern Irish finally give up and join the Republic. The question of where the border is remains a thorny one for the UK and the EU. It is hard to see how every side can be accommodated.
