The "Precision" in their name is a joke and has been since 1974. KEH
does repairs too, probably charges as much but I think I trust them more.

As you might remember, last July, while I was photographing comet Neowise my
K-1 crapped out. This was particularly frustrating because this was pretty
much exactly what I bought the K-1 for and while I was able to get some decent
shots with the K-3ii, it wasn’t quite up to the performance of the K-1. I sent
it off to Precision, then had to wait a couple months for the camera to return.
Last weekend I noticed that the lens release button was sticking and my lens
wouldn’t reliably latch in place. I sent them a note and got the reply: It’s
out of warranty, you can try cleaning it, but if it doesn’t work you have to
send it in (for I presume the full $390 for a simple cleaning).
Long story short, I was able the clean it, it seems to work. Precision is
lucky they have a monopoly.

Hello Larry,
Thank you for your email. Unfortuantely your camera is not covered under
warranty any longer. We offer a 90 day warranty period from the ship date.
However, I did speak to the technician and his recommendation is below.
We would recommend the customers uses a toothbrush and a little denatured
alcohol or Windex.
Two things are very important.
Keep body cover on the camera.
Have the camera facing down while doing so.
He doesn't want to get the denatured alcohol or Windex in the camera anywhere
else. If this doesn't work, he will have to send it back in.
Thank you,
Trish

The lens release button on my recently repaired K-1 has started getting a bit sticky. When I attach a lens, it doesn’t always entirely latch and I may need to fiddle with the release button to get it to latch.
1) Is this something that is covered under the repair warranty?
2) Is this something that would be easily solved with a drop of graphite or
triflow lube on the (edge of the)
release button?
What would be involved in getting this fixed?
While I certainly don’t want to have a lens fall off because I didn’t notice
that it failed to latch in place, I’m also not really thrilled about the cost
of shipping and having my camera out of commission for another month or so
after already going without it for a month and a half last summer.
