Just a SWAG, but you could take it to a local camera store and they'd get the battery out for you & sell you a new battery at the same time.

Although it looks like you can get two EN-EL5 batteries plus a charger from Amazon for the same price as just a battery from B&H.

How bad is it?  Possible battery hasn't leaked? Ugh.

I'd actually keep it for a backup and carrying around camera if it could be fixed and not cost too much.. and sell my Canon SX120 instead.   It
is light enough for me to carry for a while and has great features.
