No I'm talking about where the viewfinder and rangefinder windows are located on the /back/ of the camera.  They are separate and IIRC not all that easy to shift ones view from rangefinder to viewfinder.  Quick focus and compose in my memory problematic.   I find it a lot easier to shift from the focus window to viewfinder window on the Kodak Medalist, who's ergonomics could best be described as; "Ergonomics, what's that?"

I'm talking about the IIIc not the much better M3.

Leica IIIcs also not particularly rare. I think they were one of the most produced Leicas, when I was looking into getting the shutter repaired, it was actually less expensive to get a copy with a working shutter than get the jammed shutter fixed. Probably still is since I checked prices and they often sell for well less than $500 US on ebay, usually, unless they're in extremely nice condition, less than $300.

Are you talking just about aesthetics? The further apart the windows are, the
smaller the effect on accuracy at longer distances and from slop in linkages.
I don't know if there is an inverse effect on accuracy at shorter distances.
