Interesting Eagles. There are a couple of Pitts here. Some other very fast flashy looking jobs too! I'll need to get a programme to find out what they all are.

I'll get it right over the next couple of days. Probably the last chance I'll get of seeing something like this.   Ellies are much easier!

The planes are just too distant - too small - out of range. A bit like trying 
to photograph an eagle in flight at 300m!

I used TAV 1000sec,  f8 exclusively.  Tried single, 5 point & 11 point 
focusing. I started by focusing on the moon. In all auto focus modes the camera 
just couldn't lock on to the planes. There was no lens creep. Didn't try panning.
Yeah, sounds like you need to go full manual to get a chance at focus.

If it was easy, anybody could do it.
