Around 35 years ago, I bought my first CD player, a Denon. It provided about 25 years of trouble-free service.
About 10 years ago it died, and I replaced it with another Denon. Two things annoyed me: The buttons were labelled with dark grey symbols on a black background (impossible to see in dim light), and the display was rubbish. Where the old player had shown the number of tracks, the track being played, the time remaining on that track, and the time remaining on the whole disk, the new one just had the track number and the time remaining on that track. Denon #2 died last month after about 9 years, and I just bought a Yamaha. The symbols over the buttons are a bit more visible, but it has the same stingy information as the second Denon. C’mon. I can’t believe that a CD player that provided more information would be significantly more expensive to produce. Rant complete.
