Traveling in the age of COVID is a pain in the ass. We had to establish online accounts with the State of Hawaii and United Airlines and upload our vaccination certificates to both. At LAX, we had to go to United customer service to get our clearance to enter Hawaii and get the wristbands that would permit us to avoid the screening lines upon arrival at Kahului Airport. We had to wear our face masks constantly from arriving at EWR at 04:00 EDT until checking in to our condo on Maui at 6:00 PM HST, 17 hours later. Even while eating or drinking, the masks could be removed only while actually taking a bite or a sip. Since I was wearing two masks, my ears were numb by the time I arrived here:
