This is Lake Manapouri. There's a hydroelectric power station at the western
end of the lake. The turbine hall was excavated underground and the water
discharges into Doubtful Sound on the other side of the hill. We'd just been
on a tour down into the power station (it was too dim down there to take
photos) and were on our way back across the lake.
