I have non-varifocals for computer and wear them most of the time.. I don't need to see far away - I need magnifiers on top of the computer glasses for reading small print on paper and a flashlight sometimes..  My monitor is straight ahead.. with a 27" monitor - I don't have a tablet .  But at 89 my neck hurts anyway :-(  I need to learn some exercises

Get dedicated computer glasses. Computer work with varifocals is about the worst you can do to your neck muscles.
