I have two friends and a relative-in-law who upgraded to the varifocal lens.  
They had all used varifocal specs before, so had no problem.  If you have not, 
I would suggest trying a set before you make the decision.  Bear in mind that 
any sort of varifocal takes some time to get used to and some people never 
manage it.  If you do go varifocal, my understanding is that you _have_ to have 
both eyes done at the same time as it causes too much brain strain otherwise.
