Unless Nikon changed the information in the viewfinder going from the F100 to the D1x, the mode is in the viewfinder and you don't have to look at the top of the camera. Also, what ever settings you used last, for each of the settings in a particular mode, remain if you switch into another mode and then back. For example: I might have Manual set to 1/30 @ f5.6 (for flash) and then go into Av Mode, set the camera to f11, go back to manual (changing modes entails holding down the mode button with one finger and rotating a dial with the thumb - very quick and doesn't require removing the camera from you eye or shifting your grip) and the settings will still be 1/30 @ f5.6. I've used the "mode less" Pentaxes for many years and the mode Nikons for several, and find the Nikons to be much faster in practice.

Unlike the MZ-S where I can >feel if the lens is set to A, set the shutter to Auto or likewise the LX >where with a twist of the shutter dial I know if I am in Aperture Priority >or not. I found this to be very annoying while uusing the Nikon. - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List. To unsubscribe, go to http://www.pdml.net and follow the directions.
