Still, it does bode pretty well for the used value so far. The D30 goes for
900-1000, depending on condition. The Nikon D1 isn't doing too bad and
neither is the Olympus E-10, just to name three. The used prices could hold
pretty darned well when more folks realize that you can get a excellent 8 X
10 prints from just 2MP, if you do your cropping in the camera. 3MP will go
pretty nicely to 11 X 14, and 4MP and up give you even greater sized prints,
limited by the capabilities of your printer, of course. A good photofinisher
can do wonders with an image from a 4MP DSLR. I've seen it, I've done it
and I've had it done for me. I know a lot of wedding shooters that are
shooting exclusively in digital now and they get great results from 3 or 4MP
cameras. They are upgrading to the new 5 and 6MP models now because it gives
them a little extra cropping room. But their trade-in cameras would serve
hobbiests well for quite some time, so they will still draw a reasonable
price on the used market. Especially the bodies that can use your existing
lenses.

In computers, if you get one generation behind, you sure won't get anywhers
close to half of what you paid for one that was cutting edge when you bought
it.

There will have to be a startling new breakthrough before a good digital SLR
will be made essentially worthless in one generation.
