The FG grip adds some bottom weight with the net result of having better balance with longer lenses. It also forces you to hold the camera more firmly, resulting in an effective 25% resolution increase. :) There is no button on the grip. $60 (US) is too high. $35 for a new one is common. $20 to $25 for a used one is about right.
